About Bramble & Bray

So here’s the thing: Pretty much everyone loves horror, but a lot of people don’t like to admit it. It doesn’t help that it’s frequently dismissed as unserious or of no literary or cultural consequence. And that’s not only lame, but also just factually incorrect.

Horror has been a mainstay of human storytelling since before it had a name. It’s also a genre that has a lot to say about pretty much everything. Horror is a mirror of the society that produced it. It reveals what frightens or troubles us about religion, philosophy, politics, or just plain being human.

It also happens to do those things in a really fun wrapper.

Each week, I’m not just giving you something spooky to read, watch, or listen to. I am looking into why this genre matters and what it has to say about the world. I’m gazing into that mirror and I’m not letting myself flinch.

And who are you again?

Oh right… I’m Wren, and here is a ridiculous picture of me channeling my inner Wednesday and trying to look spooky:

Terrified yet? I know I am.

I’m a Horror Writers Association affiliate member and I’ve had my work appear on a variety of websites and in a variety anthologies. Am I going to list them? Maybe some other time. Because right now I’m still trying to stop hyperventilating about putting my name out there at all.

Which is probably why I adore horror as much as I do. It’s a safe space to practice the skill of being brave and finding courage. No one in a horror novel is looking to be a hero, but they always find it deep down inside themselves.
